DORSET COUNTY SHOW 2026THE BLACKSMITHS GUILD - LIVE FORGING COMPETITION

JUDGE FOR CLASSES B1 to B4 Mr Simon Grant-Jones FWCB

JUDGE FOR CLASSES FB1 to FB 3 Mr David Mitchell FWCF BSc.(Hons.) 

 

CLASS B1        Decorative Nail - Open to competitors of all experience. Materials provided by  competitors or Blacksmiths Guild. Nails to be donated and hammered into a wooden stump provided by The Blacksmiths Guild after the show

Time allowed 20 minutes Prizes:  1st £40, 2nd £20, 3rd £10

 

CLASS B2        Boot Scraper - Open to competitors with less than 3-years’ experience. Material provided by competitors or The Blacksmiths Guild

                        Time allowed 90 minutes

                        Prizes:  1st ‘The Three Spirits’ Bob Hobbs Trophy & £100, 2nd £50, 3rd £25

 

CLASS B3        Door Knocker - Open to competitors of all experience. Materials provided by competitors or The Blacksmiths Guild

                        Time allowed 90 minutes Prizes:  1st £60, 2nd £30, 3rd £15

 

CLASS B4        Hitching Ring. See Sketch and note that a Copy Piece will be provided by the Judge - Open to competitors of all experience. Materials provided by competitors  or The Blacksmiths Guild

Time allowed 90 minutes

Prizes: 1st The Tommy Tucker Cup & £100, 2nd £50, 3rd £25

 

CLASS FB1      One Plain Stamped Front Horseshoe with Toe Clip from 3/4 x 3/8 x 12 Inch  Steel provided by The Blacksmiths Guild. Open to Year 2/3 Apprentice Farriers. 

Time allowed 60 minutes Prizes: 1st £60, 2nd £30, 3rd £15

 

CLASS FB2      Heart Forging Exercise. See photos and note that a Copy Piece will be provided   by the Judge. Materials provided by competitors or The Blacksmiths Guild

Open to Year 2/3 Apprentice Farriers. 

Time allowed 60 minutes Prizes:  1st £60, 2nd £30, 3rd £15

 

ENTRY FEES    £6 per Class payable at the Show where time slots will be allocated

 

RULES             1.       The competitions are open to all comers whether they be Blacksmiths Guild              / BFBA members or not

2.       A range of materials and tools from The Blacksmiths Guild will be available

                        3.       The Judges’ decision will be final

                        4.       All Classes are for solo smiths only unless otherwise stated

                        5.       No extra cleaning up time permitted
