50th Anniversary Celebrations

30 Apr 50th Anniversary Celebrations

This year the Guild reaches a significant milestone. 50 years have passed since the Guild was formed by a small group of highly skilled and dedicated blacksmiths under the guidance of Frank Day.
Throughout the Guild’s history, thousands of students from the UK and overseas have been introduced to the wonders of our Craft. We are rightly proud that numerous students have won awards and been successful in major competitions. Many have gone on to start their own businesses.
To mark the occasion, we are organising two key events. Both events are restricted on the number of people able to attend and places will be offered to the guild membership on a first come first served basis. The first is an ‘Afternoon Tea’ on the 14th July at the Standerwick Centre in Frome where the special invitations have gone out to people who have made a significant contribution to the history of the Guild. The second event is a major ‘Forge-In’ to be held at the Yeovil Showground on the weekend of 27th and 28th of October.
During the Forge-In blacksmiths, including a number from our friends from overseas, will be forging and assembling components for a large decorative panel which is designed to be easy to transport and assembled at various future events.
In addition, we are in the process of producing a book of photographic and written memories of the Guild which will be a lasting souvenir of the Guild’s history.
Further details of our celebrations will appear in future editions of the Guild Newsletter, the website and on Facebook or available at the contact addresses below which can also be used if you wish to become involved in any way.
