Richard Jones has Passed Away

09 Jun Richard Jones has Passed Away

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Richard Jones died last night.

In every aspect of the blacksmiths world Richards influence will be missed, from the Guild Committee to the County Show Competitions where he competed year in year out.

Richard won the National Live Blacksmithing Championship awarded by the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths more times than any other blacksmith. He was a Bronze medal holder and sat on the Worshipful Company Craft Committee.

He sat on the Guild committee for many years and taught some of the Guild Courses passing on his valuable knowledge to potential new smiths.

One of the last events Richard supported was the Ypres project where he offered his time and expertise as a Steward. Richard being Richard did not just steward the teams, he was greatly involved in helping produce the panels where his experience and talents were much appreciated.

I am sure that all the members of the Guild will join us in sending our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Lorraine and his son Thomas.

I met Richard only in the last 18 months due to our joint involvement in the Ypres 2016 project. Richard always had a smile and time for us “non-blacksmiths” and we met up each evening in Ypres for the dinner, with the other participants, after the hard work of the day was completed.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing and send my sympathies and thoughts to his family and the family of blacksmiths that he belonged to.
Steve Pitt, Finance Director Ypres 2016
