14 Nov AGM 2016 a Great Success
The 2016 AGM was held on 29th October at the Standerwick Centre, Frome.
The event was a great success with more than 25 members attending as well as their guests and guests of the Guild.
Amongst other business the members voted to accept the changes to the constitution that the committee proposed – this will mean a clearer set of rules for the committee to work to. The treasurer reported a small increase in cash at the bank and an increase in membership. Although 4 committee members stood down, they all volunteered for re-election and were duly re-elected so the committee remains the same.
There were 2 applications for the Frank Day Trophy which is awarded to smiths of less than 3 years experience. The winner was Millie Gilpin for her mirror, unfortunately Millie was not present to receive her award, but we will arrange to give it to her at a later date.
Also for the first time in a few years the Audrey Paull Trophy was awarded to Hugh Adams for his many years of support of the Guild. This was especially poignant as Audrey Paull was also one of our esteemed guests.
After the business was completed there followed an excellent 4 course lunch at which we were joined by our guests Martin Heath and his wife representing the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths and Hugh Adams and his Wife, Hugh now a Life Member of the Guild.
After lunch we were treated to a most interesting talk by Andy Thompson of Eyewitness Tours about the WWI Battle of Langemarck, the site of the Ypres 2016 Cenotaph. It was most interesting to learn the important part that horses played in that tragic conflict and in consequence the Farriers needed.
